So... what we're gonna do ?

Aliens : Colonial Marines... that's the name which started a lot of discussion in the team those last days. We're gonna explain you how we're gonna work next months, besides that, some new gameplay feature and a screenshot as usual.

So, the final decision is : we're gonna switch to Aliens : Colonial Marines. But ! Please, don't yell now... there is two conditions about this change. Gearbox has to provide SDK (Software Development Kit), and the game HAS to be on Unreal Engine 3. Actually, we're pretty sure that the game is on this engine anyway... we read on some IRC channels that Gearbox is working with the engine, and we lurked often on the website what were the applications, and most of the applications concerning a "sci-fi action game" was on Unreal Engine Technology or scripting.

We are confident about the engine, the point which is more problematic is the SDK, we're not sure that the kit is going to be available. So, we are still working on Unreal Tournament 3. We didn't stopped the work anyway... we just changed priorities. We are now more focused on assets, textures creations, models creations, than scripting and coding. We are also finalizing every gameplay features, or mechanisms... and graphical / design chart.

Anyway, here is the new game feature for this week :

 

Characters and Classes - description and abilities

Two classes : Assault and Support.

The assault class is the one which has the deadliest firepower, but can't have more than one slot for the support kits (1 base slot for the kits, +25 or 50% armor resistance)

The support class is the one which has the lowest firepower, but has more slot for the support kits. (2 base slots for the kits, classic armor resistance.)

* Assault weapons kits :

  • Pulse rifle, shotgun, handgun
  • Flamethrower, shotgun, handgun
  • Pulse rifle, grenades, handgun
  • Flamethrower, grenades, handgun
  • Smartgun, handgun


* Support weapons kits :
  • Pulse rifle, shotgun, handgun
  • Flamethrower, shotgun, handgun
  • Pulse rifle, grenades, handgun
  • Flamethrower, grenades, handgun
  • Pulse rifle, handgun (bonus kits slots : +1)
  • Flamethrower, handgun (bonus kits slots : +1)
  • handgun (bonus kits slots : +2)
The assault class has a +25% damage bonus, switch faster his weapons. The support class perform kits actions twice faster than assault class.

* Tools kits :

  • Hacking kit : tool to hack doors and electronic devices
  • Fuse kit : tools to fuse doors and fences / grates...
  • Assault kit : Mines (proximity, laser), sentry
  • Medic kit : tool to heal teammates.
  • Motion tracker : tool to track movements (everything in movement including your buddies ;) )
* Supply point :

Note for next releases, we could add some supply points that allow players to switch classes and kit in cooperative mode. We have to think and dig about this concept.

 

Finally, for the month media check out the Low Poly model of the experimental marine made by MrE... if everything is going fine, we'll maybe show the ingame version next week. Don't forget to check the RMT Gallery too, showing most of the stuffs we've done for Xen Project and Requiem.
